Fall Update

A lot has been happening with the Youth Programs recently. Our devoted staff provided Anaconda’s young students with a fun-filled educational summer. Two sites went full time and an additional site was added at the Skate Park where the kids were provided nutritious meals during their long days.

We were able to secure funding to hire a full-time Youth Program Coordinator until June 30, 2011. Laurie Duncan has taken the lead for our afterschool programs and we’re lucky to have her. She’s a great asset to the program. JoAnna Thayer took Laurie’s place as a Life Coach for Youth Quest and is the coordinator for the Imagine the Park Learn and Serve Project funded through Hopa Mountain.

An Americorps* VISTA has moved from Wisconsin to research the feasibility of sustaining a Boys & Girls Club in Anaconda. B&GC offers a variety of programs that work on character and youth development. Currently, our main focus is homework and we want to expand these services. Our goal is to add services on some evenings and weekends
to the wonderful youth of this community. Jamie Roessler has taken this role. If you see her, tell her “thank you”.

Two major fundraisers are being planned for the upcoming year. We are having lots of fun planning a Red Neck Rodeo tentatively scheduled for late summer. We are tossing around a couple ideas for the second. One of them is Anaconda’s Got Talent, a takeoff of America’s Got Talent, only the winner is chosen in one night. Let us know what you think. Also, if you would like to help with any fundraisers or have ideas to find the dollars to keep us here for years to come, please give us a call. We welcome your wisdom.

Speaking of fundraising, please keep us in your mind and remember to give during these special events. As I said, we want to be here for years to come, serving the youth and families of Anaconda. And we need you to accomplish our goal. Also, if you have some talents you would like to share with our youth or some time to help with homework or read stories to our little ones, please give us a call at 563-7972. We welcome your company.

Take Care,
Deb
